Tough Nails!
Thick toenails may often be tough and difficult to cut yourself. This can be a common and normal part of aging or may be due to fungal nail infections or as a result of trauma. Trauma could be minor repetitive trauma such as ill-fitting shoes or a one-off incident like dropping something heavy on your toe. Other causes may include poor biomechanics during sports or walking that puts extra pressure on the nail bed.
Onychomycosis (fungal nail infections) can be contracted in a multitude of ways such as trying on shoes in the shop, public showers or pools or in the garden. It is very contagious and your Podiatrist can help treat the thickness and give you information about the best way to resolve the fungal infection.
At Oxford Street Podiatry, the Podiatrists can easily cut and file your toenails to reduce the thickness. They can also recommend preparations for fungal nails as well as advise you on more comfortable shoes for this condition.
Our Podiatrists are also experienced in the permanent removal of thickened toenails. Make an appointment to discuss this option as well as other way to help manage tough nails.
If you live in Mount Hawthorn, North Perth or Leederville see one of the Podiatrists at Oxford Street Podiatry for treatment of your tough nails.
